Economist

Christensen Associates is looking for a full-time Economist to join our Madison, Wisconsin team. In this role, you will join a talented team of economic analysts to solve complex, real-world problems for energy and litigation clients.

As an Economist, you will:

  • Conduct research on energy and litigation related topics to assist with current projects.
  • Collect data from disparate sources and transform it into a usable format. This will involve cleaning, analyzing, interpreting, and displaying data using multiple approaches and tools. Use the data/information in models, analysis, or client communications (e.g., presentations, memos, reports, conference calls, or testimony) as projects require.
  • Develop quantitative analyses and find creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Assist team members in writing and reviewing reports.
  • Communicate with clients and mentor team members as needed.

To be successful in the Economist position, you will need the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in economics, data science, statistics, math, or similar with a history of strong academic performance. Equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
  • 2+ years’ experience:
    • Processing large data sets (e.g., data cleaning, visualization, aggregation, etc.).
    • Conducting quantitative analysis, preferably in applied microeconomics contexts.
  • Knowledge of or background in litigation projects or regulated industries including energy or electricity markets is preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of data analysis concepts & techniques and economic/statistical modeling.
  • Analytically and technically minded with the aptitude, ability, and interest in solving complex problems and learning new things.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and a rigorous attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in a deadline-driven environment while handling multiple competing priorities.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (with advanced knowledge of Excel) and software used for statistical analysis and data manipulation (e.g., Stata, R, SAS, Python, SQL, or similar).
