Fernando L. Alvarado, Ph.D. (University of Michigan, 1972) is a Senior Consultant at Christensen Associates and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has broad expertise in electric power transmission, with current applications that relate directly to the operation of transmission systems in restructured, competitive power markets. These current projects include congestion management, nodal and zonal energy pricing, maximum system loading, market power assessment, the estimation of futures prices, and the valuation of transmission and generation assets. In addition, he is an expert in the area of large-scale software. Dr. Alvarado served as a member of the Department of Energy's Power Outage Study Team. He is the Vice-Chairman of IEEE-USA Energy Policy Committee.
