Econometric and Engineering Cost Modeling
Christensen Associates' knowledge of postal operations, combined with our expertise in econometric and other analytical techniques, makes us a natural choice for estimating and modeling postal costs. Since 1996, Christensen Associates has provided support to the U.S. Postal Service’s Product Finance group in developing new methodologies for estimating mail processing costs. Most notably, our analyses include econometric models of the variability of specific operations’ costs with respect to workload, and facility-level models used to estimate workload and productivity. In other recent work, Christensen Associates has built detailed engineering models of mail sortation operations for use in product costing and pricing. Our models are also used to simulate the cost impacts of changes in mail preparation requirements.
We have provided the results of our cost modeling work in written and oral testimony, library references, and responses to interrogatories on behalf of the U.S. Postal Service to the Postal Rate Commission.
