A STUDY OF COMPETITION IN THE RAILROAD INDUSTRY
On November 3, 2008, The Surface Transportation Board released, A Study of Competition in the U.S. Freight Railroad Industry and Analysis of Proposals that Might Enhance Competition. The report presents the findings of a 14-month independent study of the competitive state of the U.S. freight railroad industry performed by Christensen Associates of Madison, WI.
The study is divided into four sections which must be downloaded separately:

- Volume 1 (~1 MB)
- Volume 2 (~10 MB)
- Volume 3 (~2 MB)
A supplemental report to the STB on capacity and infrastructure investment was prepared in the spring of 2009. It is available as a single document:
