Overview
As the transportation sector began navigating the choppy waters of deregulation, Christensen Associates established a consulting practice with clients in the railroad, trucking, and airline industries. Using our extensive institutional knowledge, sound economic principles, and state-of-the-art modeling techniques, we developed solutions for the increasingly complex market problems in these industries. Christensen Associates has produced authoritative studies on cost structure and productivity for the transportation and other sectors. We designed the methodology for the productivity offset to the Railroad Cost Adjustment Factor—a key element of the successful regulatory reform engendered by the Staggers Act. Our expertise also encompasses rate setting and contract disputes, market structure analysis, and assessing the effects of merger activities.
Pertaining to local and statewide issues, our staff has conducted economic studies for state transportation authorities. Examples of this work include developing revenue forecasting models based on economic analysis of vehicle registrations and gasoline usage, and examining the relationship between licensing policies and public safety.
