Corey Lott

Senior Economist

PhD, University of California, Santa Barbara

Corey Lott has experience in both the energy and litigation practice areas. She conducts demand response evaluations for energy companies and works on large and complex antitrust litigation cases, collaborating on damages estimation and liability analysis.

Corey has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and specializes in environmental economics, microeconomic theory, and data analysis and applied econometric techniques, with applications to the water and energy industries. She has worked with water utilities to evaluate demand management and demand response programs, estimate price elasticities, and design drought messaging campaigns using behavioral science techniques. She provides expertise in utility data management and econometric analysis of complex billing datasets.

Corey’s research examines the impact of price and non-price incentives such as social comparison messaging and voluntary drought restrictions on water demand. Her findings suggest that consumers respond to myriad utility actions, such as providing better price information on monthly utility bills to clarify complex increasing block tariffs, automatic billing enrollment, and “nudges” towards water conservation during a drought. Her research has been published in Economics Letters and Environmental and Resource Economics.

Corey enjoys travel, reading, cooking, and outdoor recreation like hiking and whitewater rafting.
