Michael Thacker has expertise in the fields of applied frequentist and Bayesian econometrics, empirical microeconomics and industrial organization, demand analysis, and analytical research. Much of his research is centered on the US telephony market, focusing on regulatory questions surrounding the competitive effects of substitution. This research led to innovative demand estimation methods for use in industries facing substantial change and evolution. Recently, his work also includes studies of dynamic competition and costs in the smartphone industry. At Christensen Associates, Michael works on projects for energy-industry clients and the U.S. Postal Service. He has experience in various statistical software packages and programming languages including Stata, MATLAB, R, Python, Eviews, C++, and CUDA.
When he’s not at the office, Michael enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, watching college sports, and hiking.
