In his 20 years as an economics professor at the University of Wisconsin – Madison, Lau Christensen published 65 articles in leading economic journals and established himself as an authority on applied microeconomics, economic evaluation, and econometric modeling. As his consulting activities expanded in the 1970s, Lau formed a partnership with Dianne Christensen and Doug Caves, founding Christensen Associates in 1976. In addition to his work with the energy, postal, telecommunications, and transportation industries, Lau led the company’s legal practice for over two decades. In this work, he testified in landmark cases such as DOJ v. AT&T, MCI v. AT&T, and Polaroid v. Kodak. Lau served as chairman of the board through 2018, and he continues to provide leadership and guidance as a board member and chairman-emeritus.
