Productivity Analysis

Christensen Associates has implemented Total Factor Productivity (TFP) measurements for a number of industries, including the postal, railroad, electricity, telecommunications, and airline industries. Our firm’s namesake, Dr. Laurits R. Christensen, is an internationally known expert in the area of productivity measurement.

The TFP measurement tool improves on less comprehensive productivity measures, such as output per labor hour, by accounting for all input costs, including capital and materials costs. The TFP measure often serves as the basis for productivity offsets under price-cap regulation.

We have continuously measured and monitored TFP for the U.S. Postal Service since 1985, and our methods have passed scrutiny by regulators and other stakeholders. Our productivity studies address a number of business questions, including the productivity growth implicit in a company's financial plans.
